The aim of this report is to explore
the conditions of working as a video editor. This will include: investigating
the importance of experience versus qualifications, challenges and
opportunities and exploring the competition the Midlands faces. By analysing
and conducting thorough research into this area, the report will seek to
provide a greater understanding of what it is like for a video editor.

The report will contain a detailed
analysis of the dynamics in the film industry, highlighting its strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities and issues that the film industry is currently
facing. Topics that have been brought to attention over years and such as: Are
qualifications necessary? Is gender an issue? Is there an ethnicity issue? Does
the Midlands face greater challenges for work as opposed to popular cities like
Manchester, London etc.? And more, are researched throughout the report.

Completing a degree in film
production is challenging and requires a lot of dedication and effort. This
report includes the personal aspects of what it takes to become a video editor
and what is the way forward for achieving this career role.

The film industry has changed
drastically throughout the decades, for better and for worse. The industry
itself has a created a mass in job opportunities but simultaneously has made
competitive. A report specifically focusing on employment by the Department for
Culture, Media and Sport shows that creative economy employment opportunities
in the UK has increased from 2.4 million in 2011, to 2.6 million in 2013. This
is within the wide array of opportunities such as Advertising and Marketing,
